Meet your hosts for the session:

Simon Grigenas

Simon has a background in software engineering and as a founder, specializing in commercialization strategies and fundraising.

Prior to joining the 500 team as Program Manager, he led a recreational cannabis startup in the Canadian market as its Chief Executive Officer fostering growth commercially and within the management team itself. Most recently, Simon has been consulting the development efforts of Arc’teryx in reengineering the digital experience of the Veilance brand globally.

Tash Jefferies

Tash Jefferies is a resident mentor on the 500 Global Alberta program. She is a marketing and digital media strategist, international speaker and best-selling author. Her additional titles include 3 time Startup Founder (Social Media Tech, HR Tech), TEDx speaker, Top 50 Health Blogger according to Huffington Post, and one of 33 Bad--- Black Womxn in Silicon Valley.

Leveraging her 10+ years of sales and 7+ years of management consulting experience, her areas of expertise include social media marketing, building a strong online and offline brand, how to find your ideal customers, and messaging to your target audience.

Shaheel Hooda

Shaheel is a serial entrepreneur and investor. He has advised hundreds of tech startups in market validation, growth and financing. He is a Certified Leanstack and GrowthX mentor, and is also a Resident Mentor in the Silicon Valley-based 500 Global Accelerator. His current interests are in fintech, enterprise SaaS, blockchain, big data, and artificial intelligence.

His operational experience includes serving as CEO of two high-growth Canadian software startups, being part of the team that launched Canada’s first and highly successful online bank (while at McKinsey), and helping grow a US enterprise software startup to over $100 million in revenue.

Gloria Oppong

Gloria is the Co-founder and CEO of Cleanster, a venture backed startup providing reliable, trusted and efficient cleaning expertise for property owners and short term rentals. Cleanster participated in Batch 4 of the Alberta Accelerator by 500.

Gloria started her entrepreneurial journey in Ghana, where she collaborated with her mother in managing a school business, overseeing an impressive 300 students and a team of 10 teachers from nursery to primary students.

Her focus on managing people, understanding network effects, and how small and large businesses operate has created a solid foundation for her startup.

About the Program

The Alberta Accelerator by 500 is a growth-driven program for local and global entrepreneurs to land and expand in the tech innovation ecosystem of Alberta. With the support of Alberta Innovates, PrairiesCan, and Edmonton Unlimited, the program is delivered twice a year with batches rotating between Edmonton and Calgary.

500 Global is part of the Alberta Scaleup and Growth Accelerator Program, led by Alberta Innovates. The consortium, which also includes Technology and Innovation, Edmonton Unlimited, and Prairies Economic Development Canada (PrairiesCan), allocated $35 million over three years to retain business accelerators. It is part of an overall government goal to help create 20,000 jobs and increase technology firm revenue to $5 billion by 2030.

About

Back in 2010, 500 Global (then known as 500 Startups) was one of the first firms to create an accelerator program and shape how venture capital fostered early-stage startup innovation. 500 Global’s four month long program was hosted in Silicon Valley and helped founders take their companies to the next level.

Over a decade later, 500 Global continues to offer founders the opportunity for a seed investment ($150,000), as well as access to full programming that’s focused on startup growth and scaling. The Program is hosted at our headquarters in Palo Alto, California.
