timbuktoo is UNDP’s flagship pan-African initiative to build a world-class startup ecosystem by addressing critical gaps across the entire entrepreneurial journey — from ideation to scale. Over the next 10 years, timbuktoo aims to support African startups from early-stage ventures to scalable businesses, mobilizing $1 billion in catalytic and commercial capital, and creating 10 million dignified jobs.

To achieve this, timbuktoo is establishing a network of sector-specific tech hubs across Africa. The GreenTech Hub in Nairobi anchors timbuktoo’s vision to accelerate climate and sustainability innovation on the continent.
For 25 years, Shell Foundation, Â an independent charity registered in England and Wales, has empowered underserved customers to raise their incomes while lowering emissions. The Foundation supports early-stage innovations; helps the best of them to reach millions of people; and de-risks capital to prove those models are commercial at scale. Across Asia and Africa, the Foundation enables resilient prosperity among three core groups of people: smallholder farmers, transporters, and micro-entrepreneurs.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is the United Kingdom’s government department responsible for promoting British interests overseas. It leads the UK’s diplomatic, development, and consular work around the world. Shell Foundation has been proud to partner with the FCDO since 2011. The partnership currently supports two jointly funded programmes under the FCDO’s Research and Evidence Directorate: Transforming Energy Access (TEA) and Catalysing Agriculture by Scaling Energy Ecosystems (CASEE). Both programmes are part of the Ayrton Fund, a UK Government commitment to invest up to £1 billion in Research and Development for clean energy technologies and business models in developing countries.
